Artist's Description
In late Spring 2006, I noticed flashes of white in the woods behind our home. Within the next week or so several young squirrels were eating from around our bird feeder. I again I was aware of flashes of white under pine trees and tall grass just beyond our property line. Within a few days she too was eating seed and playing in the sun with her siblings. The eating seed and playing in the sun. There safe spot was the woods of course, which they scurred to when danger appeared. They played, age seed, and hid in the woods all summer long. Then in the autumn of that year, she was gone. I never saw her again, I suspect some predator finally ended her life but of course I don't know that for sure, I miss that funny little albino squirrel and think back to those days from time to time.

I hale from middle class America, a true, blue collar family, the son of a carpenter and stay-at-home mom. My parents, both gone now, came from rather poor families, and grew-up during the Great Depression. Both reaching adulthood during World War II. They were good people, hardworking, salt of the earth, Christian people. Dad was a strong, handsome, quiet man. His word was good as gold and there is nothing he loved more than his family and home. Mother, a petite woman, was fiercely protective of her children. Her face bore witness to her Native American (Cherokee) heritage; dark hair, dark eyes, and high cheek bones. She was quite beautiful.
